How to create redirects

Getting started

A redirect is used to send a user to a different URL. They are quite useful in cases like:

  1. You changed your site structure and needs to redirect users accessing an old page to a new version
  2. You want to offer a “shortcut” to another URL (e.g. https://www.mywebsite.com/partner redirects to the partner site URL)

This guide assumes that you have:

Internal Redirect

This option should be used when you want to either:

  1. The source and target of the redirect are the same site
  2. When the source and target of the redirect are not the same, but both are in Statictastic

Go to the “Redirects” section and click on the “Create” button:

Redirect List

You’ll be redirected to a new section. In the “From” area, select the website and path you want to redirect from. In our example, we will redirect all access to the “/old” path of the “Marketing Website” site. If you imagine that the “Marketing Website” domain is www.mywebsite.com, then all user requests to www.mywebsite.com/old will be redirected.

Now go to the “To” area and make sure the “Statictastic site” radio button is checked. That configuration means you are going to perform an internal redirect (to another site in Statictastic).

Select the target website and path you want to redirect from. In our example, we are redirecting to the same website (“Marketing Website”), to a different path: “/new”.

Create Redirect

Once you finished setting up your redirect, click on button “Save”. You will be redirected to the redirects list, where the redirect you created will be displayed.

It might take up to 5 minutes until your redirect rule is in place.

External Redirect

This option should be used when the target website is not in Statictastic

Go to the “Redirects” section and click on the “Create” button:

Now go to the “To” area and make sure the “External URL” radio button is checked. That configuration means you are going to perform an external redirect (to a site outside Statictastic).

Include the complete URL of your target site. In our example, we are using https://www.otherwebsite.com/new as the target URL.

Once you finished setting up your redirect, click on button “Save”. You will be redirected to the redirects list, where the redirect you created will be displayed.
